    Cardio for Leanness: Cardio to Get Shredded

    So you’re overweight and you want some help getting started on a cardio routine. Or maybe you’ve already got great muscle mass and need to know how to use cardio to get as shredded as possible. Cardio for Leanness is an excellent source of essential information and the big picture of cardio. This book is simple without being too simple.  This doesn’t seem possible when it comes to cardio – but Pauline pulls it off.

    Stuffed with information, it’s perfect for the cardio nerd who gets excited about printing things out and highlighting them. Seriously though! You’re going to learn a lot from this book.

    First off – getting a Heart Rate Monitor (HRM) is a must. If you are buying this book because you want to follow some of the cardio plans in it, then you need to get an HRM. This is important to understand, because as Pauline explains, measuring cardio to get lean should be all about heart rate.

    One other thing – this book is NOT a list of super-specific routines. Workouts described are suggestions of how often, how long and at what heart rate you should perform them. They are NOT laid out on any specific piece of equipment with suggested levels and speeds, for example. The point of this book is for you to understand cardio more fully, not to provide a bunch of cookie cutter workouts just yet. If you are looking for more specific plans, then you need to pick up FD Cardio Volume 1 or 2.

    So what DO you get? I’m not sure where to start, but here’s a few highlights - in no particular order:

    • Cardio from all angles such as fasted vs not, aerobic vs anaerobic, and what the fat burning zone is
    • Suggested workouts divided into 5 levels. Levels 1-3 range from beginner to higher intensity, and then you’ll find a contest prep plan, as well as a “stubborn fat” program that Pauline has appropriately dubbed “workouts from hell”.
    • How to measure progress
    • The Cardio Catch 22
    • The role of BCAAs
    • Suggestions and info on supplements as related to cardio
    • How to know when you are overtraining, including an explanation of the orthostatic heart rate test - Eh? Don’t even know what that is? You could Google, it…but you could also save yourself the search and get this book with that AND a whole lot more info!

    If you read this book carefully, you’ll learn Pauline emphasizes you need to “train with specificity”. It shouldn’t be any secret, so that’s why we’re sort of letting you in on that gem. More importantly, you should know Cardio for Leanness will provide you with the information you need to do exactly that, without muddying up your brain with too many facts to get started.
